PENS Program
Parents Enhancing Schools Program (PENS)
Our Parental Involvement Initiative, Parents Enhancing Schools Program, was established in September 2012. Studies indicate that parental involvement increases academic progress. As a result, parents of participants enrolled in the Rising Stars After-School Program:
- Volunteer in their child’s classroom and or after-school program 2 hours per week;
- Attend PTA/PTO meetings;
- Attend Parent Workshops and Conferences;
- Attend Title I Annual Meeting; and
- Attend NRS Parent Orientation and Spring Parent Meetings.
PENS Program Involvement Statistics:
- March 2013 – Five parents attended the 11th Annual Parent Camp presented by the Family Involvement Program of the Birmingham City School System for a total of 20 volunteer hours;
Our PENS program has allowed parents to develop healthier family relationships, foster an appreciation for academic achievement, and realize the possibilities that are available when parent and child work together to make our schools a success.
